Therapeutic Massage: a focused massage targeting your problem areas first

During a Therapeutic Massage a combination of techniques and massage modalities are used.  As a general rule the beginning of the session will be Myofascial Release and general Swedish techniques to warm the tissues up.  Following that may be some combination of Muscle Energy techniques, Active, Passive, Resisted Stretching and Muscle Activation techniques to improve ROM (range of motion), flexiblity, and create joint play by reducing joint capsulary adhesions.  As needed Myoskelatal Alignment techinques may be used to assist in creating postural symmetry, and Trigger Point work when appropriate.  At no time during the session should the client be in pain from the techniques applied.  Pain is counter productive to the therapeutic outcome because it causes reflexive muscle guarding.  At the end of a Therapeutic Massage session the client should be relaxed and relieved of much pain and tension.  Most clients leave feeling decidedly taller and experience greater ease of movement.

Pregnancy Massage: for the expectant mother after her first trimester

A Pregnancy Massage is mainly a Swedish massage meant to relieve postural stress and tension, loosen and hydrate the muscles and tissues, reduce fatigue, headache, and general muscular discomfort and stiffness.  The client is never laid face down.  Pillows are placed strategically to prop the client in a reclining position or in a side-lying (fetal) position.  Cannot be performed during the 1st trimester.  If you have had complications or are having a high risk pregnancy please consult your doctor's advice to see if massage is right for you at this time and be prepared to present your therapist with a written release from your doctor.
